The payment tool is not the licensing layer
Most licensing platforms are really a payment platform with keys bolted on — so the moment you want to change how you get paid, you’re re-issuing licenses and asking customers to buy again. Keylight is built the other way around. Payments happen in the provider you choose; licensing happens here. The two are separate on purpose, and that separation is the whole feature.
That means your provider is a decision you can change your mind about. Start on Gumroad, move to Stripe when you outgrow it, add Paddle for the countries where it handles tax — none of it rewrites the keys already on your customers’ machines.
Every provider mints the same license
Keylight supports seven checkout providers today:
- Stripe — native. Connect your account and a completed payment issues a signed license automatically.
- Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, Polar, Creem, Shopify — each issues a license over its webhook, or through a one-time import of the customers you already have.
Whichever fires, the result is identical: an Ed25519-signed license lease your app verifies offline, a device count it can enforce, and a customer who shows up in the same dashboard as everyone else.
Switch or stack without touching your app
Because the license format never changes, your shipped app never has to. It verifies the same signed lease no matter who charged the card. So you’re free to:
- Switch providers without a new release.
- Run several at once — one for direct sales, another for a marketplace, a third for a region.
- Migrate in from a homegrown setup and keep every key you’ve already issued.

Do I have to use Stripe?+
No. Stripe is the deepest, native integration, but Keylight mints the same signed license from Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, Polar, Creem, or Shopify. Use whichever checkout you already sell through.
Can I run more than one provider at once?+
Yes. Sell through several providers in parallel — every payment lands in the same customer list and mints the same kind of license. Nothing on the app side has to know which one charged the card.
What happens to my licenses if I switch providers?+
Nothing. Licenses, devices, and customers live in Keylight, not in the payment tool. Switching checkout providers doesn't touch a single key your customers already hold.
